Reading the CMI does not take the place of counselling by a health professional. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist about all aspects of your medicines, including why you are taking them and what benefits / risks you can expect.
The CMI for your medicine that is on this web site is the most up-to-date version available. It may differ from a CMI that you previously received from your doctor or pharmacist, or in your pack of medicine.

This web site does not contain all CMIs for medicines sold in Australia and not all medicines have a CMI available for them. If you do not find a CMI for your medicine on this page, contact the pharmaceutical company who makes the medicine or talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The information on this web site is intended for use in Australia only.

Expand Tacidine 23 Jan 2024

TACIDINE contains the active ingredient nizatidine.
Nizatidine belongs to a group of medicines called histamine (H2) antagonist or histamine (H2) blockers. These medicines work by reducing the amount of stomach acid produced which in turn reduces the pain and allows the ulcers and/or reflux disease to heal in most people.
Ulcers
TACIDINE is used to treat both gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. A gastric ulcer occurs in the stomach. A duodenal ulcer occurs in the duodenum (which is part of your small intestine). The ulcers can be caused in part by too much acid being made in the stomach.
TACIDINE is also used to help stop duodenal ulcers from coming back.
Reflux Disease
TACIDINE is also used to treat reflux oesophagitis or reflux disease. This is caused by "washing back" (reflux) of food and acid from the stomach into the food pipe (also known as the oesophagus).
Reflux causes burning sensation in the chest rising up to the throat (heartburn) and most often occurs after eating or at night.
Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why this medicine has been prescribed for you.
Your doctor may have prescribed it for another reason.
TACIDINE is not recommended for use in children, as the safety and effectiveness have not been established.

Expand Takhzyro PFS 31 Aug 2021

TAKHZYRO is a medicine used in adults, and adolescents aged 12 years and older to prevent angioedema attacks in hereditary angioedema (HAE).
You may still experience acute HAE attacks whilst using TAKHZYRO. You should make sure that you carry acute attack treatment and that you use this treatment as advised by your doctor.
HAE is a hereditary condition which means it can run in families. It happens when your blood does not have enough of a protein called 'C1 esterase inhibitor' (or 'C1 inhibitor'), or it does not work properly. This leads to too much 'plasma kallikrein', which in turn produces higher levels of 'bradykinin' in your bloodstream. Too much bradykinin leads to symptoms of HAE like swelling and pain.
TAKHZYRO contains the active substance lanadelumab. It is a type of protein that blocks the activity of plasma kallikrein. This helps to reduce the amount of bradykinin in your bloodstream and prevents symptoms associated with HAE.
Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why this medicine has been prescribed for you.
